Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
HIDALGO, TEXAS - The NBA D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that Kurt Looby and Trent Strickland have received All-NBA Development League Honorable Mention honors, as voted on by the 16 D- League head coaches, for their accomplishments this season.
While recording the first triple-double in franchise history last night, Looby tied the D-League single-game record with 11 blocked shots, with the last one coming at the buzzer. He also recorded 22 rebounds, the most by any Vipers this season and the second highest total in franchise history. Looby was out-rebounding the entire Iowa Energy team 16-to-14 at halftime and 19-to-17 with 6:24 remaining in the third quarter. Looby also had 14 points.
Over the last 19 games, Looby has reached double-figures in scoring 11 times and double-digits in rebounds 14 times. Looby is averaging 9.5 points, 12.9 rebounds (5.3 offensive), 3.5 blocks and 1.4 steals per game over that span.
Since moving into the starting lineup on a permanent basis on January 16, Looby is averaging 8.8 points, 11.2 rebounds (4.6 offensive), 3.4 blocks and 1.2 steals in 26 games.
Looby leads the league in every blocking category, including total blocks (118), blocks per game (2.51), blocks per 48 minutes (4.83) and blocks per personal foul (0.97).
For the season, Looby is averaging 6.4 points and 7.9 rebounds (3.1 offensive) per game.
Strickland is second on the Vipers in scoring at 17.6 points per game, including a career-high 31 on March 1 in Fort Wayne. Strickland is second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game. He scored in double- figures in each of the first 12 games of the season and has done so in 41 of the Vipers' 47 games.
Strickland dramatically elevated his play over the final nine games in January, scoring at least 22 points in four of the nine contests. He averaged 19.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 44.9% (62-138) from the field over that span.
"They're both very deserving. They've both been here since the very beginning of training camp. They've been ultimate professionals. They continue to work on their games to become better players and they're both great people," Vipers head coach Clay Moser said.
