G League Indiana Mad Ants

Walker Russell, Jr. Shatters NBA D-League Single Season Assist Record

April 6, 2009 - NBA G League (G League)
Indiana Mad Ants News Release

In what has turned out to be one of the most prolific seasons ever for a point guard in NBA D-League history, Walker Russell, Jr. collected 15 assists last night in a 105-86 Mad Ants victory over the Tulsa 66ers to become the record holder for assists in a single season. Walker now has 491 assists, which beats the previous record of 488 set by NBA veteran and D-League great Randy Livingston in 2006-07.

Walker returned to the Mad Ants after a truncated first season as a man on a mission, and he has not disappointed. He currently averages a league leading 10.9 assists and also stands as the Mad Ants fourth leading scorer with 16.3 points per game. Walker also shares the league lead in double-doubles with 28, and earlier this season, he recorded back to back triple doubles to give him a share of the league lead in that category as well.

Walker will be looking to improve upon those numbers in the team's final two games. The Mad Ants play their home finale against the Erie BayHawks this Friday, April 10, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum at 7:30 pm. The Ants travel to Erie for a game the next night to close out the season against the BayHawks. For tickets to Friday's game in Fort Wayne, please call the Mad Ants ticket office at 260-469-4667 or the Coliseum box office at 483-1111.
