Tacoma Rainiers News Release

The Tacoma Rainiers (62-55) return to Tacoma for the longest homestand of the season Friday, August 12. The homestand kicks off with a 4 day, 5 game series against the Salt Lake Stingers (63-54). Tacoma is currently one (1) game out of first place in the Northern Division behind the Stingers. The Las Vegas 51s (48-70) come to town for a four game series on Tuesday, August 16, followed by a 4 game series against the Fresno Grizzlies (57-61) beginning Saturday, August 20.

Since the last homestand at Cheney Stadium, which ended on Tuesday, August 2, a lot of changes have been made to the Rainiers roster. Pitcher Clint Nageotte was recalled to Seattle from Tacoma, Felix Hernandez made his major league debut after being called up on the 3rd of August, and Rich Dorman has be reinstated from the disabled list.

A lot of the players that fans have been watching all season here in Tacoma are now playing outstanding baseball at SAFECO field. Chris Snelling, Felix Hernandez, Yuniesky Betancourt, Wiki Gonzalez, Jeff Harris, George Sherrill, and Jorge Campillo among others are currently on the Mariners 40-man roster. For those who made it out to the game on July 30 at Cheney Stadium, you had the opportunity to pick up a limited edition Felix Hernandez bronze statue and watch the young pitcher in his last start in the minor leagues. Felix picked up his first major league win Tuesday night at SAFECO against the Twins in a 0-1 victory for the Mariners.
