Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Omaha's Justin Huber hit a walk off homer in the bottom of the seventh lifting the Royals to a 4-3 win in Thursday's second game at Rosenblatt Stadium. The Royals split the double-header and won the series.
The Sidewinders claimed the opener 5-2 behind the pitching of Edgar Gonzalez. Gonzalez entered in the third inning after two rehab outings and retired the first 15 Omaha batters he faced. Gonzalez allowed two hits in the eighth but retired the Royals two top hitters to end the inning before throwing a perfect ninth. Gonzalez struck out Chad Santos to end the game finishing his performance allowing just two hits and striking out six. The win improved the right-hander to 9-4 on the season.
In the suspended game, Tucson scored three runs in the second inning to claim a 3-1 lead. Andy Green's second hit of the night drove in Juan Brito for the third run.
Brandon Lyon allowed a run in the first inning on two hits as he continued his rehab assignment. Oscar Villarreal allowed a solo home run to Justin Gemoll in the second to cut the Tucson lead to 3-2.
The Sidewinders answered with two more runs in the top of the fourth
Neb Brown singled and scored on a triple by Andy Green. Carlos Quentin plated Green with a sacrifice fly for the 5-2 lead.
Green finished the game 4-5 with two singles, a double and a triple.
The Sidewinders claimed an early 1-0 lead in the second game when Dave Doster singled in the first inning and scored on a Brian Barden double.
Bill Murphy kept the lead until the fourth when he walked Luis Ugueto with the bases loaded and two outs to force in the tying run.
The Royals took their first lead of the day in the bottom of the fifth. Aaron Guiel doubled leading off the inning and scored on a two-out single from Justin Huber.
The Royals added a big insurance run in the sixth off Vladimir Nunez for a 3-1 lead. Tucson rallied to tie the game at 3 in the top of the seventh when Dave Doster doubled in Keoni DeRenne and Green. Doster was stranded at third and the Sidewinders failed to grab the lead.
Randy Choate retired the first batter in the bottom of the seventh. Jason Bulger was summoned from the bullpen to face Huber who smashed the winning home run over the batters eye in center field.
The loss dropped Tucson back below .500 at 59-60.
Tucson continues its 12-game road trip Friday night in Las Vegas with the first of four against the 51's. Michael Gosling (3-5 6.14) will rejoin the Sidewinders and make the start. Mike Neu (1-1 5.03) will start for the 51's in the game that will begin at 7:05 p.m. The game will air live on Cool 1450 AM.
