New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ Vic Davilla's three-run blast capped off a big inning, and Rob Fischer's bomb was the icing on the cake, as the North Shore Spirit defeated the New Jersey Jackals by the score of 7-4.

New Jersey's Jared Brown walked two in his first inning of work, but managed to wiggle out of the jam. In the second inning, he would have no such luck. Brown again struggled with control, and it spelled disaster for him and his teammates. An RBI single by Ryan Bethel, and a two RBI single by Rob Fischer made it 3-0 in favor of North Shore. Following Fischer's hit, Vic Davilla took Brown's pitch over the right field wall for a three-run homerun, and it doubled the Spirit lead to six.

While the Spirit offense was struggling, the Jackal lineup was non-existent for the early part of the game. Spirit starting pitcher, Matt Bishop, retired the first 13 Jackals he faced. But the Jackals would get very lucky in the fifth on a bizarre sequence of events. With a runner aboard, back-to-back catcher interference calls loaded the bases for Zack Smithlin. He singled into left-center to put the Jackals on the board.

In the sixth, the Jackals moved within striking distance thanks to a two-run blast off the bat of John Lindsey.

The comeback continued in the seventh, as Jason Tuttle's two-out RBI single made the score 6-4, still in favor of the Spirit.

But North Shore got a run back in the bottom of the seventh. With Aaron Myers now on the bump, Rob Fischer blasted a pitch over the left field wall to extend the lead to 7-4, and that would be the final.

The loss went to Jared Brown of the Jackals. He lasted only 1.1 innings, while allowing six earned runs, on three hits, and four walks.

Matt Bishop was awarded the win in a stellar outing. He surrendered four runs, two of them earned, on five hits. He walked one and struck out five. Kevin Fitzgerald pitched a perfect ninth for this 19th save of the season.
