Long Island Nets Defeat South Bay for Third Straight Victory

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (10-16), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, defeated the South Bay Lakers (10-18) 143-108 tonight at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Long Island was led by two-way guard Jeremiah Martin, who finished the contest with 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 shooting from 3-point range to go with five rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes off the bench. Long Island guard Jaylen Hands also finished with 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field, 2-of-5 shooting from 3-point range and 2-of-2 shooting from the charity stripe while also adding five rebounds and four assists in 22 minutes of action.

Brooklyn Nets assignee Theo Pinson added 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 shooting from 3-point range in 30 minutes of play.

South Bay forward Zach Norvell Jr. finished the contest with a game-high 31 points to go along with 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in 46 minutes of play, recording a double-double. Lakers two-way center Kostas Antetokounmpo also had a strong performance, finishing with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and seven rebounds in 41 minutes of action.

Long Island got off to a fast start versus the second-highest scoring team in the NBA G League, taking an early 10-3 lead just 2:47 into the quarter. Long Island would build on its hot start and go on to dominate the Lakers in the opening quarter, taking a commanding 40-19 lead into the second.

South Bay came into the second quarter looking to battle its way back into the game, outscoring the Nets 19-9 over the opening 6:20 of play. Long Island would answer back, outscoring the Lakers 19-12 over the remainder of the quarter, heading into the half up 68-50.

Long Island picked up right where they left off to start the second half, extending the lead to as many as 31 points. The Nets would go on to score 40 points in the quarter for the second time in the game and fifth time this season, taking a comfortable 108-79 lead into the fourth.

South Bay refused to go down easy, despite only having five available players on its roster in the fourth quarter. The Lakers, however, proved to be no match for the Nets on a night they shot 54.5 percent from the field, as Long Island would go on to close out the game 143-108. Long Island's 143 points were the most scored in a game this season.

The Nets play their next game against the Maine Red Claws on Friday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. ET at NYCB LIVE, while the Lakers will return home to face the Fort Wayne Mad Ants next on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. PT.
