Grand Rapids Drive News Release

OSHKOSH, WI - The Grand Rapids Drive (15-12) were without the services of Jordan Bone and Louis King as both two-way players were with the parent club in Detroit on Wednesday night. That didn't stop the Drive, however, from going toe to toe with the Eastern Conference's top team in a back-and-forth game that ultimately saw Grand Rapids fall to the Herd 122-115 on the road. With tonight's loss, the Drive are now 6.5 games back from Wisconsin in the race for the divisional crown.

After falling down by 10 points following the 1st quarter, the Drive turned up the intensity that allowed them to take a 49-48 lead into halftime. A tough 3rd quarter saw that small 1-point lead quickly vanish as the Drive fell down by 20 points heading into the 4th, trailing 94-74 going into the final 12 minutes. But once again, Grand Rapids was able to slowly chip away at the deficit and cut the lead down to make it a one possession game, but Wisconsin (21-5) was able to use the clock to their advantage and secure the 7-point home win in the end to keep their lead in both the Central Division and Eastern Conference.

Drive forward Tre'Shawn Thurman had a breakout game off the bench as the 6'7 Nevada product finished with a team-high 25 points after going 7-12 from deep. Thurman also chipped in 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals during his impressive performance. Craig Sword also had a solid night, finishing with 22 points, 3 rebounds & 6 steals. There were a pair of double-doubles for Grand Rapids, as Tra-Deon Hollins put up 12 points, 11 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals and big man Adam Woodbury added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Other Drive players to finish in double figures were Dakarai Allen (18 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds & 4 3PM) and Donta Hall (14 points, 8 rebounds & 2 blocks).

Wisconsin was also without both of their two-way players but did not miss a beat on the offensive end. Jaylen Adams was lights out for the Herd tonight, earning a game-high 39 points, going 6-12 from deep, and added 4 assists and 2 steals. Leon Gilmore III added another 21 points and 7 rebounds. Brandon McCoy tallied up 14 points and 7 rebounds and D.J. Hogg matched McCoy's 14 points to go with 5 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Several team stats were fairly even between the two divisional foes, as Grand Rapids was able to edge Wisconsin in rebounds (54 to 49), assists (28 to 22) and blocks (6 to 2). Both teams finished with 12 steals each and the Drive finished with 19 turnovers compared to 20 for Wisconsin. The Herd had a slight edge shooting on Wednesday night as they went an efficient 47% (40-86) from the floor compared to 43% (43-100) for the Drive. Wisconsin was also slightly more effective from long range, going 38% (18-47) from the 3-point line compared to 35% (15-42) for Grand Rapids.

The Drive will continue on their four-game road trip by making a stop in Chicago to take on Windy City this Saturday night. The Herd will head west to Santa Cruz to take on the Warriors on Friday night. Both games tip at 7pm local time.
