CITY OF SOUTH FULTON, GA - The College Park Skyhawks, the official G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, took part in a community clean-up event today in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Skyhawks players and staff worked with theÃÂ Cascade Business and Merchant AssociationÃÂ (CBMA)ÃÂ to remove debris and litter from the community.
"We don't have a lot of days off," said Skyhawks shooting guard Armoni Brooks. "To come out into the community and make a difference, make sure the city looks clean and free of litter, is important and it was great we got to do this on Dr. King's birthday."
Players and staff spent the morning working in the area around Cascade Road with members of the South Fulton community and the CBMA, which is a non-profit that aims to unite business members and promote economic development. The association hosts clean up events once a month on Saturdays, but moved January's event to Monday to recognize Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
"Having the team here was special," said Bobbie Powell, president of the CBMA. "We do this every month but wanted to hold this one today for MLK Day. We're happy the Skyhawks could join us in this labor of love for the community and we hope to work with them again."
The Skyhawks return to action on Friday, taking on the Lakeland Magic at home on Faith and Family Night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Gateway Center Arena @ College Park.
