South Bay Defeated in Road Trip Finale

UNIONDALE, NY - The South Bay Lakers ended the night with only five available players as they lost to the Long Island Nets, 143-108, on Wednesday night. Zach Norvell Jr. had a big night for South Bay (10-18), finishing with career highs in points (31) and rebounds (13) for his first career double-double. Jeremiah Martin led the Nets (10-16) with 24 points and four steals off the bench.

Long Island jumped out to a 40-19 lead after one as they closed the first quarter on a 24-5 run and Chris Chiozza scored 10 points in the opening frame. Norvell Jr. handled the scoring for South Bay with eight points in the first quarter. The Nets took a 68-50 lead into the intermission despite 20 first-half points from Norvell Jr. Martin tallied 16 points in the first half to lead the home team.

Through three quarters, the Nets held a 108-79 lead, but Jordan Caroline and Norvell Jr. combined for 18 points in the third period. The five remaining Lakers battled to the final buzzer, but the Nets were able to hold on for the win.

Martin and Jaylen Hands each scored 24 points off the bench and Chiozza paced the Long Island starters with 18 points. Deng Adel tallied an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double and Justin Anderson scored 19 points for the second unit. C.J. Williams (14 points), Devin Cannady (11 points) and Theo Pinson (10 points) also reached double figures for Long Island.

Norvell Jr.'s career night (31 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks) led the short-handed Lakers, who saw four players play at least 40 minutes. Marcus Allen had a season-high 20 points and Caroline recorded his fifth double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Kostas Antetokounmpo (16 points, seven rebounds) and Javan Felix (16 points, four assists) also scored in double figures for the Lakers.

South Bay now returns home to host the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Saturday, January 25 at 2:00pm from the UCLA Health Training Center.
