Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

ROUND ROCK, TX - In the final game before the All-Star Break, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (35-52, 2-10) were held to just two hits in a 7-1 defeat against the Round Rock Express (52-34, 8-4) on Sunday night at Dell Diamond. Highlight's of tonight's game can be found here.

Jon Singleton got the Space Cowboys on the board first when he uncorked a 405-foot solo homer to right, his fifth with Sugar Land, making it 1-0 in favor of the Space Cowboys. A solo home run from Express' first baseman Blaine Crim in the bottom of the inning brought the game back level at 1-1.

RHP Spencer Arrighetti (L, 0-1) struck out six through his first three frames, allowing just the solo home run. In the fourth, Crim and Elier Hernandez recorded back-to-back doubles to put two men in scoring position, and singles from Jonathan Ornelas and J.P. Martinez brought in both runners to put the Express up 3-1. Arrighetti finished his night by inducing a double play from Bubba Thompson, keeping the Space Cowboys within striking distance.

For the Express, RHP Robert Duggar (W, 5-5) pitched six innings and gave up just the one hit to Singleton, striking out nine without walking a hitter. Between Duggar and RHP Alex Speas (H,1), Express pitching retired 19 straight hitters, which was broken up by a single from Rylan Bannon in the top of the eighth. César Salazar then walked, but the next two hitters struck out to end the threat.

Round Rock added on two more runs in the seventh and eighth, and the Space Cowboys were retired in order in the ninth to close out the game.

The Space Cowboys now enjoy four days off for the Major League All-Star Break. Sugar Land resumes their schedule on Friday, July 14 at Constellation Field as they begin a nine-game home stand with a three-game series against the El Paso Chihuahuas, starting at 7:05 pm. The game can be heard on ESPN 92.5 FM or online here and seen on MiLB.TV.
