La Crosse Loggers News Release
DULUTH, MN - The La Crosse Loggers fell a run short last night in their contest against the Duluth Huskies, extending their losing streak to three games.
Making his final start of the summer for the Loggers was Drew Christo (Nebraska), who was able to keep his team in the ballgame through 5.0 innings of work. The stout right-hander surrendered 4 runs on 4 hits and 6 strikeouts.
The Huskies' offensive production was spread out, coming from several players. Michael Halquist (Minnesota College) led the team in RBIs with 3. He drove in runs with a sacrifice fly, base hit, and walk. Kristian Campbell (Georgia Tech) also had a strong performance, going 1-for-3 with 2 walks. He was a menace on the base paths, swiping 4 bases.
Drew Conn (Grand View University) was the opposing starter and was able to neutralize Loggers' hitters. He tossed 5.0 scoreless innings while allowing just 4 hits on 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. His bullpen provided 3.0 solid innings of relief until the Loggers formulated a comeback in the 9th inning.
Heading into the final frame, the Lumberman found themselves down 5 runs. They were able to tie the game by hanging a 4 spot on the scoreboard. Ty Hamilton (UW-La Crosse) started the rally with a base-knock and was driven in by Bill Ralston (St. Mary's College), who also singled. Following a couple of walks, Alijah Acevedo (Elgin CC) delivered a clutch bases-clearing triple to even the score.
In the bottom half, Jared Mettam (St. Mary's College) walked and stole second base. He was then plated by Eddie Satisky (Nebraska-Omaha), who delivered the walk-off single to centerfield.
The Loggers will return home tonight to begin the final series of the 2022 season against the Mankato Moon Dogs. After the game, there will be a "Fireworks Extravaganza" presented by Festival Foods. The first pitch is set for 6:35pm CT at Copeland Park. Fans can watch live at https://northwoodsleague.com/watch-nwl/.
