Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Local fans will discover a whole lot more than baseball when they make the trip to NYSEG Stadium for B-Mets games over the holiday weekend. The New Hampshire Fisher Cats will visit Greater Binghamton for a four-game series starting Friday night, May 25th at 7:05 pm.
The Show starts when the gates open at 5 pm that evening for the 1st "Happy Hour at the Hive" featuring classic rock guitarist John Charney. John Charney is a professional performing, writing, recording, and instructing musician from Johnstown, PA. In addition to performing solo shows in front of stadium crowds, John has recorded several solo and collaborative cd's of entirely original music which have all garnered critical and popular praise. John is additionally very active in musical direction and performing guitar for theatre productions including "Rocky Horror Show", "Godspell", and "Aida". Most worthy of note, however, is the original show "Visitor From Planet X" (based on a cd from John's band Wine of Nails), which was performed at the collegiate level in 2002. Finally, John instructs over 30 full-time guitar students in the Johnstown area. For more info, please visit www.johncharney.com.
Charney will perform live down the leftfield line, and the B-Mets will offer drink specials up until 7 pm for those that turn out for the pre-game set. The Toyota Fireworks Series will follow the ballgame featuring a live musical accompaniment by Charney entitled "Dark Side of the Moon Medley" fashioned after the popular album by Pink Floyd.
The fun continues on Saturday, May 26th with a Jimmy Buffett/ Margaritaville theme to the festivities revolving around the 7:05 pm game. The 1st 1,000 fans through the gates will get free leis. You can't replicate the atmosphere of a Jimmy Buffett concert without live music, and the B-Mets will present Tom Watt in his Greater Binghamton debut.
Watt, known to his loyal following as The Buffettman, has been dazzling fans around the U.S. for close to a decade with his own unique tribute to both the music and spirit of the Jimmy Buffett concert experience. A true Jimmy double (in both looks and voice), Tom began performing his tribute show regularly in the Pittsburgh area by the spring of 1998. By the following year he was performing Jimmy's music up and down the east coast, from Key West to the Carolinas and Virginia Beach.
Since then, Tom has expanded his show with several talented musicians and a repertoire of songs that are sure to satisfy land sharks everywhere, with performances that range from thrilling trop-rock antics to more intimate acoustic fare full of dynamic harmonies and superb musicianship. His range of tunes includes Buffett favorites like "Margaritaville" and "Fins," to lesser-known gems, such as "Love in the Library," "The Captain and the Kid," and "Coast of Carolina." And let's not forget to mention Buffett concert staples like "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Uncle John's Band," just to name a few! Learn more about him at www.tomwatt.com.
The weekend of our National Pastime resumes with a rare Sunday night game on the eve of Memorial Day at 7:05 pm, and the Toyota Fireworks Series will light up the sky immediately after the game. The 1st 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a FREE miniature U.S. Flag courtesy of Heritage Flag & Supply. Lockheed Martin will present a tribute to America's fallen by providing free admission to any active military personnel to both Sunday and Monday's games. The B-Mets will wear a special edition patriotic jersey for both of the Lockheed Martin-sponsored games.
Sunday home games also feature the popular "Cost Cutters Kids Eat Free Family Fun Day" deal. With a paid admission, any youngster 14 & under, will receive vouchers good for a free hot dog, drink and snacks at the concession stands. Senior citizens (60 & over) will also get a break with a special $4 Sunday admission price all season long.
For many families, the Memorial Day holiday is synonymous with picnics, so the B-Mets will host their own "Picnic in the Park." The team will offer a pre-game, all-you-can-eat picnic of hot dogs, hamburgers, macaroni & fruit salads, potato chips and Cokes from 11:30 am-1:00 pm. For only $7 per person (not including the price of a ticket), any fan can enjoy this All-American feast in the leftfield picnic area at NYSEG Stadium. Game time for this unofficial start of summer is 1:05 pm. Picnic in the Park space is limited, so fans should contact the B-Mets at 723-METS for more details.
