
Rock Cats Transactions Involve Four Pitchers

NEW BRITAIN, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats announced four player transactions today, each one involving a right-handed Pitcher.
Departing New Britain for Triple-A Rochester in the International League are:
RHP Nick Blackburn, a 25-year-old resident of Norman, OK who was selected by the Twins out of Seminole State (FL) JC in the 29th round of the 2001 Draft, will join the Red Wings tonight in Richmond, VA. The 6'4"/ 230-pound hurler leaves New Britain with a 3-1 record and 3.08 ERA after eight 2007 appearances.
RHP J. P. Martinez, a 24-year-old resident of Metairie, LA who was selected by Minnesota out of the University of New Orleans in the 9th round of the 2004 Draft, will accompany Blackburn from New Britain to Triple-A Rochester. The 6'2"/ 210-pound Martinez made 11 appearances for New Britain in 2007, compiling a 1.37 ERA with no decisions.
Arriving in Double-A New Britain to join the Rock Cats in the Eastern League are:
RHP Kyle Waldrop, a 21-year-old native of Knoxville, TN who was selected by the Twins out of Knoxville High in the 1st round of the 2004 Draft. The 6'5" / 215-pound hurler joins New Britain from the Ft. Myers Miracle in the Single-A Florida State League. Waldrop made 8 appearances in the FSL - all starts - and compiled a record of 4-2 with an ERA of 2.86.
RHP Frank Mata, a 23-year-old native of Barcelona, VZ who was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent in 2002, will join the Rock Cats from Ft. Myers in the Single-A Florida State League. Mata made 13 relief appearances for the 2007 Miracle, posting a 2-0 record with 1 Save. His ERA was a stellar 1.33.
