B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver) Just a few months separate the BC Lions from their 61st training camp and preparations for another exciting CFL season went up a big notch this morning with the release of the 2014 schedule.
The Lions will open their quest for the Grey Cup against the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday, June 28 in the first of three afternoon tilts on the year. The extremely fan-friendly schedule includes three other Saturday dates, four Friday-night games and a Sunday afternoon encounter against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in August.
" We are very happy with this year ' s home schedule and we believe our fans will be as well," said president and CEO Dennis Skulsky. " With an even split of Friday and Saturday dates I believe we took a big step toward achieving what our fans have told us they want for home dates and start times ."
The 2014 home schedule includes other highlights as well with the Ottawa REDBLACKS making their debut in BC with a Thanksgiving weekend visit on Saturday, October 11 and two visits by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as they return to the West Division this season.
" From a coaching perspective this year ' s schedule is very favourable for us," said head coach Mike Benevides. " Consistent preparation time between games, tough opponents early on, a late season bye - week and finishing at home against a division rival will make 2014 very exciting and a lot of fun ."
Fans will get their first look at the 2014 version of the Lions during their lone preseason home game on Friday, June 20 versus the Calgary Stampeders.
