Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The Lincoln Saltdogs came out flat offensively in their first game after the All-Star break, falling 10-0 to the St. Paul Saints. Lincoln drops to 6-7 on the second half of the season.

St. Paul starter Mitch Wylie (6-5) pitched a gem for the Saints, tossing seven shutout innings and allowing just three hits while striking out seven. Wylie set down the first 12 Saltdogs he faced, before Pichi Balet led off the fifth with an infield single. Lincoln's best chance to score came in the ninth, when the Saltdogs loaded the bases with one out, but they failed to put a run across and suffered a shutout for the fifth time in 2009.

St. Paul, meanwhile, took advantage of some early wildness by Lincoln starter Jim Paduch (4-4), who walked six batters between the second and fourth innings. The Saints scored single runs in the second, third and fourth frames to take the early lead, but Paduch settled down after that retiring the last eight batters he faced and pitching through the sixth inning. St. Paul, however, broke the game open in the seventh, scoring six times against the Lincoln bullpen to put the contest out of reach. The Saints also added an unearned run in the eighth.

Balet had the only multi-hit night for Lincoln, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. The Saltdogs managed only six hits total on the night, and only advanced a runner to third base twice.

Lincoln attempts to even the series Friday night at 7:05. Righty Jarrett Gardner will make the start for the Saltdogs.

The next Saltdogs homestand begins on July 27. For more team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
