Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City.....Pensacola scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning Thursday to hand the Explorers a 10-9 loss in the first game of the four-game series at Lewis and Clark Park.
The two Pelican runs came after the Explorers had come back from an 8-0 deficit after two innings. The Explorers tied the game in the seventh on a RBI single by Derek Schmerhorn and then took a 9-8 lead when Brett Mieras doubled to drive in the go-ahead run.
However, Pensacola touched relief pitcher Brett Reid for two runs on three hits in the ninth as Reid suffered his first blown save of the season and took the loss.
Jason Colson continued his hot hitting for the Explorers with three hits and now has hit safely in all 13 games since he joined the team two weeks ago.
A former Explorer Lou Palmisano led Pensacola with five RBI, including a three-run home run in the first inning and the game winning RBI in the ninth for the Pelicans.
The second game of the four-game series will be played Friday. Game time will be 7:05.
