
LHP Scott Elbert, RHP Carlos Frias Join Isotopes

Left-handed pitcher Scott Elbert joined the Albuquerque Isotopes this afternoon on a Major League rehab assignment, and right-handed pitcher Carlos Frias also rejoined the Isotopes. In a corresponding move, right-hander Nick Struck was sent toDouble-A Chattanooga.
Elbert is recovering from Tommy John surgery in 2013 and will be making his fifth appearance of the 2014 season. He pitched in one game for the Rookie-level Ogden Raptors on June 18 and made two more appearances for the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on June 24 and 26. Elbert has pitched in parts of five seasons with the Los AngelesDodgers, claiming a career 3-3 record with a 3.61 ERA. He's struck out 92 batters and walked only 41 in 92.1 innings pitched. He previously wore an Isotopes uniform in parts of three seasons from 2009-11 and is 34-25 in 11 Minor League seasons. He has 3.48 ERA with 618 strikeouts against 292 walks in 532.1 Minor League innings.
Frias is 6-4 in 12 appearances, 11 starts, with a 4.73 ERA with Albuquerque this season. He's struck out 59 and walked only 16 in 72.1 innings pitched. He was transferred to Chattanooga's roster Sunday afternoon when Struck was promoted to Albuquerque.
Struck was added to the Isotopes roster yesterday and started last night's game against the Reno Aces. He suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs on 12 hits in six innings pitched. After beginning the year at Extended Spring Training, Struck originally joined the Isotopes on May 2 and pitched in one game before being sent to Double-AChattanooga on May 5. In 10 appearances, nine starts, with Chattanooga he is 1-4 with 7.80 ERA. He has struck out 29 batters and walked 21 in 45.0 innings pitched.
The Isotopes and El Paso Chihuahuas will begin a four-game series tonight at Southwest University parkin El Paso, TX. Right-hander Zach Lee (6-8, 4.86 ERA) will get the start for Albuquerque, while El Paso will go with lefty Jason Lane (5-6, 4.50 ERA)
