The El Paso Chihuahuas scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning in their 6-4 comeback win over the Tacoma Rainiers Sunday at Southwest University Park. Down by a run entering the eighth, Brooks Conrad singled and eventually ran home on a wild pitch, avoiding catcher Jesus Sucre's tag. Cody Decker's RBI triple to center field put El Paso ahead to stay. Jerry Sullivan the final two innings for his first Triple-A win.
Juan Oramas had his second consecutive strong start since returning from Double-A San Antonio. Oramas pitched six innings and allowed two runs. The Chihuahuas had another comeback early in the game, when they scored three times in the fifth to overcome a 2-0 deficit. Conrad went 2-for-4 with his 17th home run of the season, good for third most in the Pacific Coast League.
The Chihuahuas took three out of four from the Rainiers and won 12 of the 16 meetings between the two teams this season. El Paso has won seven of its last nine games and collected back-to-back series wins for the first time. Second baseman Jace Peterson made one of the best defensive plays of the season in the seventh inning, grabbing a hard hit one-hopper with his bare hand to start a 4-6-3 double play.
