Des Moines, IA- 2BArismendy Alcantarawas named the Pacific Coast League's Player of the Week for the week of June 23-29.

Alcantara batted a PCL-best .517 last week, while tying for the league-high with 15 hits and eight runs scored. He also ranked second in the PCL with eight RBIs, and his two home runs tied him for the third-most. He tallied multiple hits in six of the seven games.

This week's accomplishments have been part of a stretch where he has reached base safely in 23 of his last 24 contests, including hitting safely in a season-best eight straight games. Alcantara leads the league this season with 42 extra-base hits, 10 triples, and is tied for the lead with 163 total bases, while ranking second with 57 runs scored. Alcantara also tops the Cubs this year in batting (.305) hits (91), doubles (22), slugging (.547) and OPS (.893).

This is Alcantara's first Player of the Week Award in six seasons with the Cubs organization. He was named a mid-season Florida State League All-Star with high-A Daytona in 2012 and a mid-season and post-season Southern League All-Star with double-A Tennessee last season.

Alcantara is the fifth Cubs player to earn a weekly award this season. LHTsuyoshi Wada(April 3-13), LHChris Rusin(May 5-11), RHKyle Hendricks(May 12-18)have all been honored as the PCL Pitcher of the Week, while SSJavy Baez(May 19-25) has been named the Player of the Week.

The Cubs are home at Principal Park to play five games in four days against the first place Omaha Storm Chasers beginning tonight at 7:05. RH Carlos Pimentel (1-4, 4.56) makes his ninth start of the year for the Cubs against RH Sugar Ray Marimon (5-4, 3.74). The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
