Altoona Curve News Release
Binghamton, N.Y.- The Altoona Curve lost to the Binghamton Mets 3-2 Thursday evening at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, N.Y. With the two teams tied 2-2 entering the bottom of the ninth, Cory Vaughn blasted a solo home run off Quinton Miller to give the B-Mets the walk off win.
Binghamton struck first in the first inning. With one out, Brian Burgamy hit a solo home run to left that gave the B-Mets the 1-0 advantage.
After beginning the game without getting a baserunner for the first three innings, Altoona broke out in the fourth. With one away, Alen Hanson hit his third home run over the left field wall to tie the game at one.
The B-Mets struck for a run in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead but the Curve tied the game again in the seventh. After Elias Diaz hit a leadoff single, Willy Garcia then tallied an RBI single to center that brought home Diaz.
The Curve had an opportunity to take advantage in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and nobody out but failed to capitalize. All told, the Curve left seven men on base.
Adrian Sampson took a no-decision in the game but tossed a season-high seven inning and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six and giving up only an intentional walk. Cody Satterwhite (2-0) earned the win for Binghamton while Altoona's Quinton Miller (1-1) took the loss.
With the loss, Altoona (15-23) finished the road trip with a 2-5 record and the Binghamton Mets (20-16) took the series win two games to one.
Altoona will return to Peoples Natural Gas Field on Friday for a seven-game homestand. The Curve will start a three-game set against the Richmond Flying Squirrels for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch and postgame fireworks for the fans while pregame on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. For tickets and more information, visit AltoonaCuve.com, call 877.99.CURVE, or stop by the box office at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
