New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The following is a look at what's coming to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium during the next series of our homestand. The Binghamon Mets (New York Mets) return to Manchester for the last time this season starting Friday night. The Fisher Cats are 4-6 against the Mets this season, including a 3-4 mark at home.
OPPONENT
The Binghamton Mets are entering this week's series with a 19-16 record on the year and sit just 2.5 games behind first place in the Eastern Division. Binghamton has topped the Fisher Cats in their meetings so far this season (6-4).
TOP PROSPECTS
Kevin Plawecki, C - A first round draft pick in 2012, Plawecki has made quite the impression after finishing his first professional season a year ago. The 6'2'', 225-lb catcher has incredible bat control and a knack for making contact. He is good defensively and as a young player, still improving. He is hitting .295 in his first Double-A season, but the Fisher Cats have had his number limiting him to a .240 average with just one extra-base hit. Jayce Boyd, 1B - Boyd's natural feel for hitting and his smooth swing are two keys to his consistency at the plate. His power hasn't showed up yet but he's capable of hitting line drives to all fields. Off to a slow start this year, he is at .232 with two home runs. Against the Fisher Cats, he has been better than his season average, sitting at .265 with one of his home runs. Jack Leathersich, LHP - A product out of UMass-Lowell, Leathersich, has averaged 14.8 strikeouts per nine innings in his two full professional seasons in the bullpen. His fastball-curveball combo is nearly unhittable though his below average control can get him into hot water. After starring in the Eastern League a year ago, he's back to his strike-out dominance with 26 in just 14 innings of work.
All three players are ranked in the Top 20 Mets prospects for this year, according to MLB.com.
