Vaughn Blasts B-Mets to Walk-Off Win, 3-2

BINGHAMTON, NY - Cory Vaughn led off the ninth inning with a walk-off home run to push the Binghamton Mets to a 3-2 win over the Altoona Curve on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. Vaughn's blast, his second of the season, secured Binghamton's sixth series win of the year and capped a 5-2 homestand.

The B-Mets started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Brian Burgamy came to the plate with one out against Curve starter Adrian Sampson. The switch-hitter launched the first pitch he saw over the left-center field wall to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Binghamton starter Darin Gorski cruised through the first three innings, retiring the first ten batters he faced. Portland shortstop Alen Hanson ended the stretch and tied the game with a solo blast over the left-field wall in the fourth.

Binghamton came right back in the bottom of the inning. Travis Taijeron threaded a two-out double down the third-base line. Xorge Carrillo put the B-Mets back on top with an RBI single up the middle.

Gorski exited with a one-run lead after six innings of work. Altoona erased the deficit against reliever John Church. Elias Diaz singled to start the seventh. He reached second on a ground out by Broxton and scored on an RBI single by Willy Garcia to knot the score at two.

The Curve threatened to take the lead in the eighth inning, loading the bases against Jack Leathersich on an error, a bunt single and a hit batter. Cody Satterwhite took over with one out and got Stetson Allie to ground into an inning-ending double play. Satterwhite returned for the ninth and stranded two runners in a scoreless inning.

Satterwhite's efforts set the stage for Vaughn in the ninth. The B-Mets outfielder blasted Quinton Miller's second pitch of the inning into the rail yard beyond the left-field wall, securing Binghamton's sixth win in eight games.

Satterwhite (2-0) tossed 1-2/3 scoreless innings and earned the win after Vaughn's blast. Miller (1-1) suffered the loss. Gorski allowed one run on four hits and struck out six over six innings in the no-decision.

The B-Mets (20-16) hit the road for a nine-game, seven-day road trip starting in New Hampshire on Friday at 6:35 PM. RHP Matt Bowman takes the mound against RHP Scott Copeland. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
