Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (6-8) could not overcome a rough third inning, losing 9-6 to the first place Reno Aces (11-3).

Dominic Leone made his first start of his 410-game, 10-year career. The River Cat right-hander struck out five over two innings before making way for lefty Phil Pfeifer.

After shortstop Jancarlos Cintron led off the third inning with a single, Aces starting pitcher Jon Duplantier (1-0) tried to bunt him over, but a throwing error by Pfeifer set the wheels of the four-run inning in motion. Two RBI singles, a walk, a run-scoring double-play, and an RBI single by former River Cat Henry Ramos made it 4-0.

Sacramento got one back in the bottom of the inning when shortstop Thairo Estrada doubled and scored on a LaMonte Wade Jr. single.

Down 7-1 in the seventh, Estrada and Wade once again got the crowd to their feet. Estrada singled home two and then scored when Wade lined a three-run home run to make it 7-6. Estrada finished the day 3-for-5 with two runs while Wade went 2-for-5 with four RBIs.

Right-hander Shun Yamaguchi (0-2, 10.13 ERA) will try to earn Sacramento's first home win of the season. He'll be opposed by right-hander Josh Green (2-0, 0.82 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT). Watch the game on CW31 or listen to all of the action live online at rivercats.com, on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Ramos made an incredible diving catch on the left field warning track to rob third baseman Jason Krizan of a game-tying extra-base hit in the seventh. He ended the inning one batter later when he crashed into the wall to rob left fielder Joe McCarthy.

Former Aces pitcher Silvino Bracho struggled to find the shutdown inning, allowing two key insurance runs in the eighth inning.
