February 24, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (February 24, 2014) -D.C. United today proudly announced that Leidos [NYSE: LDOS], a national security, health and engineering solutions company, is an official sponsor of the Black-and-Red. Leidos, evolved from SAIC, has a 45-year history and is a top employer in the area with more than 6,000 employees in the national capital region.
As Presenting Partner under the multi-year agreement, Leidos is the exclusive Jersey sponsor for D.C. United. The company's logo will be prominently featured on the front of the team's Jersey, displayed throughout the stadium and all of the team's marketing and media properties. The sponsorship will also enable both Leidos and D.C. United to engage the community and charitable partners through events, including Armed Forces Week activities and other custom programs that will be developed throughout the partnership.
According to Forbes, MLS' fan base is the fastest growing of any sport, outpacing all others in the ten-year periods from 2001 to 2011 as well as 2002 to 2012. The surge in the sport's popularity offers a unique opportunity for Leidos to reach a diverse and growing fan base to build brand recognition.
"Soccer is a growing, global sport and we are a growing company with our eyes on the future," said John Jumper, Leidos Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. "This sponsorship will help enable us to get exposure not only locally, but throughout the country and internationally."
"We are extremely excited for the opportunity to partner with such an innovative company that recognizes the value of our sport and our brand, both here and around the world," said Jason Levien, Managing Partner, D.C. United. "We look forward to many successful years working together to help accomplish each other's goals. We thank Leidos and their 23,000 global employees for their support and friendship."
Jerseys with the new Leidos logo will be available for purchase at the team store at RFK Stadium and online on March 8, the day of the regular season home opener against the Columbus Crew. Fans that previously purchased a jersey and would like to have the Leidos logo added can bring their jersey to the D.C. United Team Store for the logo addition free of charge. The team will debut its new jersey with the Leidos logo for the first time on March 8.
