Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO (Feb. 24, 2014) - The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Monday that they have mutually agreed to terminate the contract for Uruguayan forward Federico Puppo. This is the latest move by the Fire's new First Team leadership to improve the Club's salary cap situation moving into 2014 and beyond.
"Parting ways with Puppo allows us to get closer to cap compliance," said Fire Head Coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop. "We wish Federico well."
Yallop added, "I want to express my thanks to ownership for this significant undertaking. It's part of a number of difficult moves which help our team going forward."
Puppo joined the Fire in January 2012 and made 12 competitive appearances for the Men in Red, tallying two goals and one assist. In July 2012, Puppo was loaned to Uruguayan side Defensor Sporting. The following January, Puppo was sent on a year-long loan to Ecuadorian giants LDU Quito.
