February 24, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release


With League's 19th season kicking off on March 8, there's plenty of excitement to come in the next 12 days.

This week, expect most clubs to continue to make player moves as all teams are required to be roster and salary budget complaint by March 1. Teams will have the chance to add depth or shed weight tomorrow when a waiver draft is held via conference call at 3 p.m. ET

The following week, March 3-7, is Jersey Week with most teams hosting local events to unveil new primary, secondary or third jerseys.

Finally, the regular season action begins when Seattle Sounders FC host the MLS Cup champion Sporting Kansas City at 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN. Other nationally televised games that weekend include Vancouver Whitecaps FC vs. New York Red Bulls at 7:30 p.m. ET on TSN (March 8) and Chivas USA vs. Chicago Fire at 3 p.m. ET on UniMas (March 9).

2014 MLS Reserve League Schedule Announced

Major League Soccer today announced the full 2014 MLS Reserve League schedule. Among the scheduled matches are 28 interleague games between MLS Reserve League teams and USL PRO clubs.

This year's reserve league features eight MLS teams competing in a single-table format.

Entering the second year of the league's partnership with USL PRO, the LA Galaxy formed an independently operated USL PRO team, LA Galaxy II, while10 teams have affiliations, including:

"¢ Portland Timbers and San Jose Earthquakes with Sacramento Republic FC

"¢ Toronto FC with Wilmington Hammerheads FC

"¢ Vancouver Whitecaps FC with Charleston Battery
