Legends Widen Lead With 5-0 Win

The Lexington Legends inched closer to a first half title after a 5-0 win over Hagerstown on Sunday. The Legends lead Hagerstown and Lake County by three games with six to play. The Captains fell 5-2 to Delmarva. The Legends magic number stands at three games.

The Legends broke from the gate quickly scoring two in the first inning. Jonny Ash and Bryan Triplett led off with infield singles. After a Hunter Pence strikeout, Ben Zobrist walked to load the bases. Suns shortstop Wilson Batista booted an Ole Sheldon ground ball allowing Ash and Triplett to score.

The Legends added a run in the third inning. Sheldon doubled in Hunter Pence to make it 3-0. Bryan Triplett's single to center in the fourth scored Frankie Caraballo to give the Legends a four run cushion. Lou Santangelo doubled in Mitch Einertson in the sixth inning to end the scoring at 5-0.

Jimmy Barthmaier earned his sixth win of the year with six scoreless innings. Barthmaier's streak goes to 19 straight scoreless frames. Jimmy surrendered only one hit while striking out eight batters.

Game three is set for Monday night. Ryan McKeller will face right-hander Matt Durkin. First pitch is set for 7:05 on a Meijer Monday. The Progressive Direct pre-game will kick off Legends Network coverage at 6:50.
