(Lexington, Ky.): Zach Johnson drove in three runs with a homer and a two-run single, and the Lexington Legends scored four times in the seventh inning on their way to a 6-3 win over the Hagerstown Suns Thursday night.
Hagerstown opened the scoring in the first. Cutter Dykstra led off with a walk. He stole second with one out. Jason Martinson flied out for the second out, but Matt Skole walked, and Adrian Nieto followed with a single to plate Dykstra.
Lexington answered in the bottom of the first with Johnson's solo home run, his fifth homer of the year.
The Suns went back in front in the fourth. J.P. Ramirez led off with a single and advanced to third on Justin Miller's double. Caleb Ramsey's sacrifice fly to center field scored Ramirez to give the Suns a 2-1 advantage.
The Legends tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on Drew Muren's double and John Hinson's single.
Hagerstown took the lead again in the sixth. With two outs, Brett Newsome's fly to left fell for a double when left fielder Brandon Meredith lost sight of the ball. Ramsey followed with a single, giving the Suns a 3-2 lead.
The Legends' decisive seventh-inning rally started when Hinson and Jimmy Howick hit back-to- back singles with one out. Greg Holt relieved Christian Meza and walked Delino DeShields Jr. and Jordan Scott to force in the tying run. Johnson followed with a base hit to right, driving home Howick and DeShields. Matt Duffy's sacrifice fly to left scored Scott to give the Legends their final 6-3 margin.
Murilo Gouvea (1-0) picked up the win, pitching two and a third innings of scoreless relief and striking out five batters. Dayan Diaz threw a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save.
Christian Meza (2-1) was tagged with the loss for Hagerstown.
The two teams will play game two of the series Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Former University of Kentucky standout Alex Meyer is scheduled to start for Hagerstown against the Legends' Nick Tropeano, who has been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week twice this season.
