Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville continued their winnings ways on the road, by taking game one from the Rome Braves 2-0 on Thursday morning. The Tourists found themselves in another close game and were able to mount a rally in the eighth for the win.

Vianney Mayo (2-3, 4.21) bounced back from a rough outing his previous start and showed the dominance we saw during his complete game shutout at West Virginia. Mayo pitched 7.1 shutout innings and held the Braves to just four singles.

Navery Moore (1-1, 3.99) went seven scoreless for Rome and received a no-decision in his second amazing performance against the T's this year. Moore has now tossed 12 shout-out innings versus Asheville this season.

After the two teams went down without a threat inning after inning, the Tourists rallied off the Braves bullpen in the top of the eighth. Asheville loaded the bases with one out on two singles and a walk. Tyler Massey came to the plate and lined a single into left on a two-strike fastball off Ryne Harper. Two batters later Sam Mende singled home the second run of the frame.

Geoff Parker pitched the final two outs in the bottom of the eighth and Nelson Gonzalez worked the ninth for his fourth save of the season. Gonzalez walked the first two Braves hitters in the final inning, but he settled down and preserved the shutout.

Rome has lost ten games in a row and Asheville is now 3-2 against the Braves this season. Game two of the series is Friday night at 7:00pm.
