Peoria Rivermen News Release
PEORIA, Ill. (February 25, 2010) - Representatives of the IHL and ECHL Peoria Rivermen will make up the Rivermen Legends squad that will take on the Peoria Firefighters Local #50 on March 6. The charity hockey game will take place at 5 p.m. before the Rivermen and the Lake Erie Monsters drop the puck at 7 p.m.
A portion of the proceeds from tickets purchased through the Rivermen office will be donated to benefit MDA, a nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.
Four members of the Rivermen Hall of Fame will participate in the game as Denis Cyr (1998), Joe Rybar (2008), Don Granato (2008) and Trevor Baker (2009) will all be part of the Legends team.
In total there will be nine representatives of the 1999-2000 ECHL Kelly Cup championship team including Granato, the head coach, along with Rybar and Baker. Darren Clark, Luke Gruden, Blaine Fitzpatrick, Duane Derksen, Darren Maloney, and Jason Christie were all part of that team as well.
Other ECHL (1996-2005) participants include Tyler Rennette, Kevin Tucker, Bob Gassoff, Kevin Lune and Peoria native Bo Cheesman.
