
Legends Come from Five Down to Beat Suns 10-7

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Lexington Legends rallied from a 5-0 deficit and went on to defeat the Hagerstown Suns 10-7 Tuesday night. Nolan Fontana, Mike Kvasnicka and Ryan McCurdy each had two runs batted in.
Hagerstown opened the scoring with three runs in the first. With one out, Billy Burns tripled, and Cutter Dykstra and Steven Souza followed with back-to-back doubles to give the Suns a 2-0 lead. Adrian
Nieto's single to center field drove home Souza with the third run of the inning.
The Suns added two more runs in the third on Dykstra's single and Souza's 17th home run of the season.
The Legends countered with one run in the bottom of the third. With one out, Jordan Scott singled, and moved to third when Ruben Sosa reached on an error by Dykstra, the second baseman. Scott scored on a wild pitch by Hagerstown starter Taylor Hill.
The Legends cut the lead to one with three runs in the fourth. Matt Duffy led off with a walk and moved to third on a double by Brandon Meredith. Both scored on Kvasnicka's double down the right field line. Justin Gominsky's ground out advanced Kvasnicka to third, from where he scored on McCurdy's grounder to shortstop, leaving the Suns' lead at 5-4.
Brian Goodwin's two-run homer in the sixth, a 410-foot blast to right field, gave Hagerstown a 7-4 advantage.
But the Legends rallied to the take the lead with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kvasnicka led off with a single, but was out at second when Gominsky grounded into a fielder's choice. McCurdy then doubled down the left field line, scoring Gominsky. McCurdy advanced to third on the throw home and then scored as Scott reached first on an error by Dykstra. Sosa followed with a double, moving Scott to third. Fontana then sliced a single to right field, scoring Scott and Sosa and giving the Legends the lead at 8-7. Fontana moved to second on Souza's throw to the plate and to third after Zach Johnson's fly out to right field. Duffy's single brought Fontana home and made the score 9-7.
The Legends scored an insurance run in the eighth inning. With two out, Johnson reached when a strike three pitch got away from catcher Jeremy Mayo for a passed ball. Johnson moved to second on Duffy's single and scored on a single by Meredith.
Tommy Shirley (2-1) entered the game in the sixth inning and got the win, allowing two runs over two and two-thirds innings. Dayan Diaz picked up his 14th save by recording the final four outs.
Hagerstown starter Taylor Hill (9-5) was handed the loss after allowing nine runs, six earned, over five and one-third innings of work.
The Legends finished their eight-game home stand with a record of 7-1, and now will travel to Greenville, S.C. to take on the Drive beginning Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
