Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends (8-8) held on to beat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 128-123 in front of a sold out home crowd. The Legends starting lineup had four twenty-plus scorers and grabbed a season-high on the boards to take a 1-0 lead in the season series.
The Vipers went on a 9-0 run to start the game but quickly lost steam. Seven minutes into the game the Legends took control and never relinquished it. Tu Holloway grabbed 12 points and dished out 4 assists as the Legends pushed to a 36-30 advantage heading into the second. Texas took their largest lead in the before the half as eight-of-nine active players got on the board and pushed the gap to 17. Shooting went cold as the Vipers saw 29% and Legends 39% but Texas out-rebounded the Vipers 24-11 and went into the locker room up 69-54.
Will Cummings and Raphiael Putney came out of the locker room firing, posting 26 of the Vipers' 42 points as RGV shot 76% and cut the lead to eight. The final twelve minutes saw one outside shot out of 11 total between the two teams. Vipers' leading scorer Putney went 0-for-4 as the Vipers' rally fell short. With just under two minutes to play, there was a two-point difference but Holloway and Manny Harris combined for four fast points to close out the visitors' efforts.
