D-Fenders Fall to Jam at Home

EL SEGUNDO - The D-Fenders fell to the Bakersfield Jam 95-89 tonight in El Segundo.

Ryan Kelly (33 points, 4 blocks) led the D-Fenders (9-11), while Tarik Black followed with 19 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks. The 19 rebounds is tied for 2nd-most all time on the single-game regular season list. Anthony Brown scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds for Los Angeles.

Xavier Munford (20 points, 5 assists) paced the Jam (9-11). Renaldo Major (15 points), Deonte Burton (13 points) and Kyle Casey (12 points, 8 rebounds) all scored in double-figures for Bakersfield.

The contest got off to a slow start, with the Jam outscoring the D-Fenders 23-21 in the first quarter. Black started the rebounding early, grabbing six in the first quarter. The second quarter was a stalemate, with each team scoring 28 points. Kelly had 10 points in the second for Los Angeles, who trailed 51-49 at the half. Black had 13 rebounds at the break.

Los Angeles started slow in the third quarter, with the Jam edging the D-Fenders 21-19 in the frame. Kelly and Black each had seven points in the third. The trend continued in the fourth quarter, with the Jam outscoring the D-Fenders 23-21. Kelly had 10 points in the fourth, but the D-Fenders fell 95-89.

The D-Fenders shot .349 from the field, compared to .396 for Bakersfield. The D-Fenders shot .129 from three point range, while the Jam finished at .300. Los Angeles turned the ball over 13 times. Bakersfield outscored Los Angeles 48-30 in the paint.

Los Angeles heads to Santa Cruz for the NBADL Showcase to face the Canton Charge on January 9th in Santa Cruz, CA.
