Legends Can'T Hold off Tourists in Game One

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - The Lexington Legends welcomed in the Asheville Tourists for the first time this season, and despite leading early, fell 10-8. The Legends now drop to 39-38, 2-7 while the Tourists improve to 33-44, 6-2.

The Legends plated their first runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Brewer Hicklen lined a leadoff double to right centerfield then was doubled home by Nick Pratto and Lexington led 1-0. Back-to-back singles by Dennicher Carrasco and Sebastian Rivero then loaded the bases. An RBI single by Marten Gasparini extended the Legends' lead, 2-0 after the first inning.

Casey Golden put the Tourists on the board in the top of the second inning with a solo homer to left field, but Lexington still led, 2-1.

In the bottom of the second, Brewer Hicklen lined a double to the left field corner then scored on Pratto's second double of the night. After two, the Legends led 3-1.

The Tourists blasted their second home run of the night, this time off the bat of Matt McLaughlin, cutting into Lexington's lead 3-2.

Lexington answered with a long ball of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Cal Jones hit his fourth of the season, and the Legends led 4-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, Sebastian Rivero drew the leadoff walk then advanced to second on a fielding error by the Tourists. With Rivero at second, Jones doubled him home extending Lexington's lead 5-2.

Asheville started to mount their comeback in the top of the sixth. Bret Boswell hit a lead off home run to right center field, to make it a two-run game. Sean Bouchard then reached on two-base error by the Legends then was joined on the base path by Chad Spanberger after he drew a walk. Golden laced an RBI single down the right field line, advancing Spanberger to third. Taylor Snyder then singled home Spanberger and the game was tied at five.

In the bottom of the sixth, Pratto reached on a fielder's choice ground ball to the second baseman then scored on an RBI double by Carrasco, putting the Legends back on top 6-5.

The Tourists would then take the lead in the top of the eighth. Back-to-back singles by Spanberger and Golden turned into two runs courtesy of a two-run double by Snyder and Asheville took the lead, 7-6.

Asheville extended their lead in the top of the ninth. With two outs, Bouchard sent a groundball to second baseman Ricky Aracena who could not make the play at first. Spanberger then reached on a single to left field. With two runners on, Golden smashed his second homer of the night and the Tourists led 10-6.

In the bottom of the ninth, Pratto led off with his third double of the night then Carrasco hit a two-run bomb to left field to pull the Legends within two, 10-8.

Nate Harris was awarded the win for the Tourists, throwing 1.1 perfect innings of relief while striking out one. Jacob Condra-Bogan was given the loss for the Legends, pitching 2.0 innings allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out one.

Lexington and Asheville meet tomorrow, July 1 at 2:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Legends will send RHP Andres Sotillet (5-5, 4.01 ERA) to face the Tourists' RHP Garrett Schilling (3-3, 3.46 ERA). It is another Free Ticket Sunday for all children, courtesy of JiF!
