The Lexington Legends broke a tie with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and defeated the Rome Braves 10-6 Saturday night at Applebee's Park.

With the score even at 6-6, Grant Hogue walked to lead off the Legends' eighth. Jose Altuve, who had four hits in the game, followed with a single. Aaron Bray's base hit scored Hogue from second to put the Legends in front 7-6. An error by second baseman Phil Gosselin on a pickoff attempt allowed Altuve to go to third. J.D. Martinez grounded to shortstop Matt Weaver, and Altuve scored when catcher Braeden Schlehuber was unable to handle Weaver's throw to the plate. Bray advanced to third on the play. Martinez moved to second on a wild pitch as Bray held third. Both scored when Jake Goebbert doubled to left field, giving Lexington its final margin.

Kirk Clark (3-1), though he allowed the tying run in the eighth inning, worked the eighth and ninth and picked up the victory. Steven Figueroa (0-1) was the losing pitcher.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Martinez hit his eighth home run of the year, a solo shot to right center field. Rome drew even in the third inning on a hit batsman, a passed ball, a stolen base and a single by Kyle Rose.

The Legends went back in front in the bottom of the third when Altuve singled and came home on Bray's double. They added another run in the fourth on a walk to Jonathan Meyer, a wild pitch, and an RBI single by Grant Hogue, making the score 3-1.

Rome tied it at 3-3 in the fifth on a walk to Schlehuber, a double by Weaver, an RBI infield out by Rose and a sacrifice fly by Todd Cunningham. The Braves took the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh, but the Legends rallied with three in the bottom of the seventh to take a 6-5 lead. One run came home on a double by Hinze and two scored on Jonathan Meyer's double. Hinze's RBI gave him 61 for the season, best in the South Atlantic League.

The Braves evened the score at 6-6 with a run in the eighth on a single by Riann Spanjer-Furstenburg, two infield outs and a base hit by Schlehuber, setting the stage for the Legends' decisive rally.

The series continues with a 2:05 p.m. game Sunday at Applebee's Park.
