
Suns Bats Come Alive Against Crawdads

The Hagerstown Suns (38-35, 2-1) bats came alive as they beat the Hickory Crawdads (41-32, 1-2) 10-4 Saturday night at Municipal Stadium.
Hickory came out with the lead 1-0 in the fourth as Matthew West doubled to center putting him in perfect scoring position. Next up to bat was Zach Zaneski who hit a double to left bringing in West.
In the fifth, the Crawdads increased their lead by one after Cody Podraza singled to center bringing in Joseph Bonadonna who reached earlier on a double.
It did not take long for the Suns to answer back in the fifth. Francisco Soriano hit a two run homer over left field scoring Jeff Kobernus after he hit a single earlier. Hagerstown tied the game 2-2.
The momentum for the Suns kept going in the sixth as left fielder JP Ramirez doubled to center. With Ramirez on second, Eury Perez singled to center the Suns take the 3-2 lead. Hagerstown did not stop there as Justino Cuevas reached on a fielder's choice bringing in Perez putting the Hagerstown lead 4-2.
Hagerstown made the gap wider in the seventh as right fielder Destin Hood doubled to center bringing up JP Ramirez. With Ramirez on second after getting hit by a pitch and Eury Perez on first after a force attempt, Justino Cuevas drove all three runners in with a double to left. Second baseman Jeff Kobernus singled to right bringing in Cuevas making the lead 9-2.
The Suns scored one more in the bottom of the eighth, JP Ramirez brought in Justin Bloxom after reaching with a single making the score 10-2.
Hickory tried to answer back in the top of the ninth. As Michael Ortiz was on first after a walk, Edwin Garcia singled to right. With runners on first and second, Joseph Bonadonna doubled to left bringing in Ortiz and Garcia. The Crawdads answered with two but that was not enough as the Suns took the game 10-4.
The starting pitcher for the Suns Graham Hicks (1-0) got the win pitching six innings with six strikeouts. Luis Garcia pitched the seventh and eighth with one strikeout. Wanel Vasquez pitched the top of the ninth letting up only two runs.
Robert Ross (8-6) the Crawdads starting pitcher took the loss pitching six innings giving up four runs and eight hits.
The Suns and Crawdads will play the fourth game of their five-game series on Sunday evening at 2:05 p.m.
