Left Wing Dean McAmmond Signed to AHL Contract

East Rutherford, NJ - New Jersey Devils CEO/President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello today announced that left wing Dean McAmmond has been signed to an AHL contract. He is expected to join Albany's training camp today. As per organizational policy, no further terms were disclosed.

McAmmond was born June 15, 1973, and will be entering his 12th professional season. He posted 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points and 18 penalty minutes in 64 games in his second stint with Calgary during the 2003-04 campaign. McAmmond has career totals of 135 goals and 192 assists for 327 points and 354 penalty minutes in 645 NHL games with Chicago, Edmonton, Philadelphia, Calgary, and Colorado.

The 5'11", 195 lb. forward was re-acquired by Calgary from Colorado March 11, 2003, but did not see any action with the Flames the remainder of the season. McAmmond was traded to the Avalanche just prior to the start of the 2002-03 campaign, after playing the 2001-02 season with Calgary. He split the 2000-01 season between Chicago and Philadelphia, after spending nearly two years in his second tour of duty with the Blackhawks.

The native of Grand Cache, Alta. has spent most of his pro career with the Edmonton organization, appearing in 303 games from 1993-94 through March 20, 1999. He also saw action in a total of 50 games with Cape Breton during the 1993-94 and 1995-96 seasons. McAmmond began his NHL career by playing in five games with Chicago during the 1991-92 season, making his NHL debut on February 20, 1992 vs. New Jersey. He was the Blackhawks' first choice, and the 22nd overall selection in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. McAmmond has represented Canada at the 1996 and 2000 World Championships, as well as the 1993 World Junior Championship. He split his junior career between Prince Albert and Swift Current (WHL).
