Lee Sang Homers, Claws Earn 7-4 Thursday Win Over Wilmington

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Marcus Lee Sang homered and the BlueClaws pulled clear late to top Wilmington 7-4 on Thursday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

The BlueClaws (16-16) got back to .500 with the win while Wilmington falls to 18-17. Jersey Shore has won four of their last five overall and two of three to start this series.

Sang opened the scoring with a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, in the bottom of the second inning. Caleb Ricketts added a two-run single in the third to push the lead to 4-0.

Wilmington came back to tie the game with four runs in the sixth including an RBI single by James Wood, a hit batsman with the bases loaded, and a SAC fly. All four runs were charged to starter Matt Osterberg, who had thrown five scoreless innings before the sixth.

The game remained tied into the bottom of the seventh whenDannel Diaz walked the bases loaded with two outs. Todd Peterson came on and walked Rixon Wingrove to bring in the go-ahead run and put the BlueClaws up 5-4. Leandro Pineda added an RBI single in the eighth and Jared Carr a SAC fly.

Orion Kerkering came on in the ninth and got two strikeouts to earn his first BlueClaws save. Matt Russell (3-1) picked up the win with two perfect innings in relief, striking out three.

Lee Sang was 3-3 in the win while Kendall Simmons and Casey Martin had two hits. Simmons extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

The teams continue their series on Friday night. LHP Jordan Fowler starts for the BlueClaws.
