(Windsor, ON) - The Windsor Spitfires are proud to announce a charitable commitment from Laval International as part of the club's MVP Program, through which the United Way Windsor-Essex County received a donation of $1,000.
Laval International President Jonathon Azzopardi says the company feels a real connection with the "On Track for Success" program, which assists local youth at risk.
"About three years ago, we starting looking to the United Way as our opportunity to give back the community," Azzopardi said. "The program has given us the chance to support someone locally, so our employees have fully bought in. People can see it and feel it and they know what it means."
United Way Windsor-Essex CEO Lorraine Goddard says Laval International is a model for others in the local business community.
"We were very excited to have this opportunity," Goddard said. "The United Way has really changed over the last number of years. We're very focused on reducing poverty and mitigating its effects. We need the support of the community. We'd like to thank Laval International, Jonathon and his employees."
Prior to the third period of this past Sunday's game versus Kitchener, Spitfires General Manager presented a cheque to United Way Windsor-Essex County on behalf of Laval International and the Windsor Spitfires Foundation.
Laval International was also recognized in a feature video presented on the WFCU Centre's Jumbotron during an intermission break.
