
Latendresse Nets Two In Cyclones Win

READING, Pennsylvania - Cincinnati Cyclones foeward Olivier Latendresse scored a pair of first period goal in leading the club to a 3-2 win over Reading on Saturday night. The victory evened the best of seven North Division Finals series at one win each. Goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped 25 shots in picking up his first win of the Kelly Cup playoffs.
The Cyclones netted three first period goals in building a 3-1 edge. Matt Macdonald ripped a shot from the slot on the right side for his first score of the playoffs at 2:17 on the power play. David Desharnais and Thomas Beauregard added the assists. The lead extended to 2-0, when Olivier Latendresse fired home his third goal of the playoffs at 10:54 from T.J. McElory.
A shorthanded goal from Reading's Brock Hooton, his ECHL-leading third man-disadvantage goal and fifth of the playoffs cut the deficit in half, 2-1. Hooton's score came at 17:18. Just 28 seconds later, at 18:46, Latendresse netted his second of the night and fourth of the postseason to open a 3-1 lead. Barret Ehgoetz and Jason Deitsch assisted on the score.
There was no scoring in the second period, but Reading did have four power play chances, including a 57 second stretch with a two-man advantage-but were unable to capitalize on it. The Royals outshot Cincinnati, 12-5, in the period.
Reading scored the only goal of the third period on a power play score from Shawn Collymore at 9:40. The Cyclones clamped down the defensive effort and did not allow the equalizing goal.
This was the second game of the best-of-seven North Division Finals. It is the third time in team history that the squad has reached this stage of the Kelly Cup playoffs and second straight year that is has occurred. The Cyclones (55-12-5) were the North Division, American Conference and Brabham Cup (best overall ECHL regular season record) champions. Reading (38-26-6), which was seeded third, upended second-seeded Elmira in a six game series that ended Sunday to advance to this round. Game three of the series will be played at U.S. Bank Arena on Monday, April 28 at 7:30pm. The fourth game also will be in Cincinnati on Wednesday, April 30 at 7:30pm. The fifth game will also be at U.S. Bank Arena on Thursday, May 1 at 7:30pm.
