
Shamsid-Deen, Davis Assigned To Lightning

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning announced DB Rashad Shamsid-Deen (SHAWM-sih-deen, RAH-shawd) and WR Shannon Davis have been assigned to the Lightning by the arenafootball2 league office.
Shamsid-Deen (80) and Davis (13) are expected to make their season debut with the Lightning tonight, who face the Iowa Barnstormers beginning at 5:05 p.m. from Wells Fargo Arena.
Shamsid-Deen spent his af2 rookie season last year with the Tri-Cities Fever, appearing in all 16 games while ranking fourth on the team with 51 tackles, additionally amassing 2.5 tackles-for-loss, two sacks and seven pass break-ups while helping guide the team to a berth in the ArenaCup Playoffs.
The Eastern Washington University (NCAA) product spent four years of his college football career (2002-05) with the Eagles, finishing his 46-game Eastern career with 139 tackles, five passes broken up and five forced fumbles (second in EWU history).
Davis enters his second af2 season after spending last season with Tri-Cities and spending his college career with Kent State University (NCAA), leading the team with 86 tackles as a 2002 junior and amassing a combined 184 tackles over the last two seasons with the Golden Flashes. Davis' two interceptions tied for the program lead as a 2003 senior and is re-united with former college teammate and Lightning DB Nashville Dyer.
Davis also led Kent State with 94 punt return yards in 2002.
The Lightning return to play on Saturday for a week 5 road matchup against the Iowa Barnstormers, starting at 5:05 p.m. from Wells Fargo Arena. The game be heard on radio at 1420-AM KSTN and viewed, free-of-charge, online through www.stocktonlightning.com (courtesy of NifTy Online TV).
