Late Triplet of Runs Gives ValleyCats 6-4 Win

BROOKLYN, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats used three eighth inning runs to take down the Brooklyn Cyclones at MCU Park on Monday night by a final score of 6-4.

Alex McKenna and Alex Holderbach each swatted early home runs to power the ValleyCats' early offense.

McKenna's home run served as the keynote for Tri-City, giving the ValleyCats a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

The Cyclones then tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, after Carlos Cortes scored on a wild pitch.

This marked the first of three separate times where the Cyclones tied the score in the first four innings.

The ValleyCats took a 2-1 lead in the third inning, when Holderbach scored on a Jeremy Pena single.

The Cyclones then used a triple from Manny Rodriguez to set the stage for their second run of the game.

Rodriguez came in to score on Carlos Cortes' second hit of the day, tying the score at 2-2.

Alex Holderbach then smoked his second career home run over the left field wall to give Tri-City a 3-2 lead.

After Brooklyn went on tie to the score again in the bottom of the third, that score of 3-3 stuck until the eighth.

Cesar Salazar broke the stalemate with a two-run double to give the ValleyCats a 5-3 lead.

Pena then drove a single into right field, bringing home Salazar with the ValleyCats' final run.

Mark Moclair earned the win for Tri-City, with JP France locking down the save.

Now with a record of 24-18, the ValleyCats maintain a 2.5-game lead over the Connecticut Tigers for first place in the Stedler Division standings.

The ValleyCats and Cyclones will face off again at MCU Park for game two of their series on Tuesday afternoon, with first pitch slated for 11:30 a.m.
