Late Surge Powers Lynx Over Clippers
June 15, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release
The Lynx struck late to take a 4-1 win over visiting Columbus. Clippers outfielder Brandon Watson extended his hit streak to 41 games with two hits tonight. He can tie the International League record for longest hit streak with a hit tomorrow.
The win bumps the Lynx record to 28-35 while Columbus falls to 30-37.
Lynx Player Of The Day: Lynx starter Bubba Nelson won his second straight start, holding Columbus to one run over eight innings, chipping in with a hit and picking off two Columbus runners.
Game Recap: The Lynx snapped a four-game skid with their 4-1 win over Columbus Friday night at Lynx Stadium. The Clippers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Lynx squared the affair with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth when Pedro Swann hit his second home run of the season over the right field fence off reliever Emiliano Fruto. Both teams traded shutout innings until the bottom of the eighth when the Lynx exploded with three runs. Chris Roberson led off with a double, moving to third on Joe Thurston's sacrifice bunt. After Fruto intentionally walked Jason Jaramillo to set up the double play, Gary Burnham smacked an RBI single into centre field to score Roberson. The Lynx put on some insurance when Jim Rushford's double scored Jaramillo and Danny Sandoval's sac fly brought home Burnham. Bubba Nelson held the Clippers to one run over eight innings for the win and Brian Sanches pitched a tidy ninth inning for his 10th save.
Next Game: The Lynx and Clippers face off for the third game of this four-game set Saturday afternoon at Lynx Stadium. Game time is 1:05 pm.
Probable Pitchers: Saturday vs. Columbus, 1:05 pm: Ottawa LHP Eude Brito (1-3, 7.80) takes on Columbus RHP Tim Redding (8-5, 5.74).
