Gwinnett Stripers News Release
Pawtucket RI - The Richmond Braves shut out the Pawtucket Red Sox 3-0 Friday at McCoy Stadium. Four Braves pitchers combined to blank the Red Sox while allowing just two hits as the Braves won at McCoy Stadium for the first time since 2005.
The Braves tallied twice in the third inning to open a 2-0 lead. Martin Prado singled a run home and Graham Koonce picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly. The Braves added a run in the eighth when Koonce chased Prado home with a fielders' choice ground ball. Meanwhile, Lance Cormier worked two hitless innings with two strikeouts on a rehab assignment. Ryan Basner tossed 4.2 scoreless innings. Will Startup and Manny Acosta chipped in with hitless relief stints.
Basner earned the win. Manny Acosta collected his eighth save. Jon Lester took the loss. Brayan Pena had three of the Braves 10 hits. The shutout was the Braves league leading ninth of the year.
The Braves and Red Sox meet again at McCoy Stadium Saturday at 6:05. Blaine Boyer will start for the Braves against Kason Gabbard.
