June 15, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Norfolk Tides in the second game of a four-game series from Harbor Park (7:15 p.m.). The Tides won the series opener on Thursday, 3-1, in a pitcher's duel between Jeremy Sowers and Garrett Olson. Looking to even up the series, the Bisons will turn to LHP Eric DuBose. The southpaw was outstanding in his Herd debut, defeating Richmond in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday. Norfolk will counter with RHP Jim Johnson.
VS. THE TIDES: Since rejoining the International League in 1998, the Bisons have not lost a season series against the Tides. Even with last night's loss, Buffalo is 46-25 against the Tides (.648 winning percentage). That record includes 26 wins in 38 games in Norfolk (.684 winning percentage).
DOMINATING DEBUT: LHP Eric DuBose was outstanding in his first game as a Bisons pitcher. In the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday, he allowed just one run on five hits in five innings of work. He also struck out five batters, helping the Bisons end a season-long four-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Braves.
STARTING STRONG: Bisons starting pitching has combined for 26 quality starts in 65 games (52 in 2006). Jeremy Sowers, who led the team with 11 last year, collected his first of 2007 last night. Aaron Laffey leads all currently active Bisons with four (Stanford, Miller, A: 6 each). A quality start is six or more innings pitched with three of fewer runs allowed.
CHART TOPPER: Ben Francisco is back atop of the International League hitting charts. The outfielder's .336 average leads all batters in the IL. Francisco is also tied for 2nd in the IL in hits (76) and fifth in runs scored (39).
CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Right behind Francisco is Ryan Mulhern. The first baseman is currently 8th in the IL in batting average (.319). He is also tied for the top spot in the league in slugging percentage (.563), and tied for 2nd in doubles (20).
SEEING 20-20: Infielder Hector Luna became the eight different Bisons batter to collect 20RBI on the season. Luna plated the only Herd run last night with an RBI-single in the eighth inning. Ryan Mulhern leads the team with 39RBI with Ben Francisco (33), Keith Ginter (31) and Luis Rivas (30) all with 30+ RBI on the season.
