Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC-- Leading 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Asheville Tourists felt pretty good about where they stood. Asheville's Helmis Roriguez was cruising and the Savannah Sand Gnats had only one hit to their credit. Unfortunately for the Tourists, the Gnats mounted a rally to tie the game then vault ahead in the eighth. Savannah ended up with a 6-2 win.

The Gnats took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the third. JC Rodriguez reached on a fielding error by Emerson Jimenez. Three batters later, Luis Guillorme doubled into left field plating Rodriguez. It was the only hit through the first six innings for the Gnats.

Asheville responded in a big way in the bottom of the fifth. After Savannah's starting pitcher Casey Delgado retired the first twelve batters of the game, the Tourists went to work. Josh Fuentes and Drew Weeks hit back-to-back singles to begin the frame. After Wes Rogers dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over, Sean Dwyer tied the game with an RBI groundout. Dom Nunez then gave the Tourists the lead with a single into right.

After Savannah tied the game in the seventh, they put runners at second and third with one out in the eighth. Asheville opted for the intentional walk to load the bases. Following the free pass, Jon Leroux walked on four pitches to force in the go-ahead run. A pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly capped the four-run frame.

The Tourists have now lost three straight after winning a season-high six in a row. On Monday, Asheville dropped their homestand finale to Charleston 15-6. The Tourists allowed a season -high 19 hits to the RiverDogs. Shane Hoelscher and Fuentes each hit Home Runs in the loss to Charleston.

Asheville and Savannah are scheduled for a 7:05pm contest on Wednesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Sand Gnats have won five of the first seven meeting between the two teams.
