
Suns blind Intimidators to win game one

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 16, 2015)- The Hagerstown Suns scored five runs in the first two innings and held on to beat the Kannapolis Intimidators, 8-4, Tuesday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System.
Intimidators' newcomer Nick Delmonico's first hit came via the long ball in the fourth inning to cut the Hagerstown lead to 5-1. Delmonico ended his debut going 1-for-2, with a home run and two RBI.
Hagerstown grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning off Intimidators' starter Yelmison Peralta, who struggled to find the strike zone. Alec Keller led the game off with an infield single. After a walk to Osvaldo Abreu, Raudy Read singled to score Keller from second. With runners on second and third a catching error by Peralta on a flip from Nick Basto at first, scored Abreu from third. The Suns completed the three-run inning when Read scored from third on a fielder's choice.
Hagerstown added to its lead in the second inning, making it 5-0. With the bases loaded Jose Marmolejos-Diaz singled to right field scoring two runs.
After the Delmonico home run in the fourth inning the Suns countered with an insurance run in the fifth, extending their lead to 6-1. With Jeff Gardner at second, David master doubled to left field, scoring Gardner easily.
Kannapolis plated three runs in the home half of the seventh, cutting the Suns lead to 6-4. After lead off singles by Mason Robbins and Ethan Gross, Eddy Alvarez walked to load the bases. After a wild pitch by Andrew Cooper scored a run, Hunter Jones Knocked in Gross on a single. The next at-bat Alvarez scored on a sacrifice fly by Delmonico.
The Suns added two more runs in the top of the eighth, to put the game out of reach, 8-4.
Yelmison Peralta (2-6) was charged with the loss, going 5.0 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits while walking six and striking out two.
Luis Reyes (3-4) earned the win by working 6.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits while walking three and striking out one.
Jose Brito came in for Peralta in the sixth, working 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out one. Matt Cooper went the final 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs, two hits while striking out one.
The Intimidators and Suns continue their 3-game series Wednesday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Right-handed pitcher Luis Martinez (2-6, 7.52) takes the ball versus Hagerstown' All-Star Austen Williams (6-1, 1.96).
