Lexington Legends News Release

Ryan O'Hearn's first-inning homer gave Lexington the lead, and pitchers Nik Stephenson, Corey Ray and Evan Beal held Augusta to five hits as the Legends won 4-2 Tuesday night in Augusta.

The Legends took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Alfredo Escalera singled and O'Hearn hit his South Atlantic League-leading 15th home run of the year.

Augusta scored a run in the bottom of the first. Cristian Paulino led off with a walk, stole second base, continued to third on a throwing error by catcher Chase Vallot and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Jones.

The Legends added two runs in the fourth. After Vallot drew a leadoff walk, Brandon Downes doubled. Vallot advanced to third on the hit, and came home on an error by Paulino, the center fielder, as Downes advanced to third. He scored on a wild pitch to give the Legends a 4-1 lead.

Augusta cut the lead to two in the fifth when Jared Deacon, Paulino and Jones singled to load the bases, and Deacon came home on a ground out by Jeremy Sy.

Stephenson (2-5) worked the first five innings and got the win. Ray allowed one hit and no runs over the next three innings, and Beal retired the side in order in the ninth for his fourth save.

Augusta starter D.J. Snelten (0-2) was the losing pitcher.

The Legends and GreenJackets will play game two of the three-game series Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
