RiverDogs Rally, Power Surge to 5-4 10-Inning Victory

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston RiverDogs rallied back from a 4-1 deficit and tied the game in the ninth inning, but the West Virginia Power plated a run in the 10th to win 5-4 in the first game of the series Tuesday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The RiverDogs (31-34) entered the ninth trailing 4-3. Ryan Lindemuth was hit by a pitch with one out, and then stole second and third. With two outs in the inning, Jose Regalado threw a wild pitch and Lindemuth came home to score the tying run, much to the delight of the 2,780 fans in attendance.

However, the Power (36-29) returned the favor with a run of their own in the 10th. Cole Tucker walked, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Jerrick Suiter. Charleston put the tying run on second in the bottom half of the frame, but Chris Breen lined out to center field to end the game.

The RiverDogs trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Three singles in a row by Rainiero Coa, Vicente Conde, and Dustin Fowler loaded the bases. After Angel Aguilar grounded into a fielder's choice, Chris Breen reached on a fielding error by the West Virginia shortstop Tucker and Conde scored.

Two batters later, Alexander Palma hit a ground ball to short and Tucker's throw pulled the first baseman Connor Joe off the bag. Joe missed on an attempt to tag Palma and Fowler scored the second run of the inning.

Charleston got on the board first with two outs in the third. Conde hit a two-out double, one of his three hits in the game. Dustin Fowler followed with a base hit to right field

After three scoreless innings to begin the game, Rony Bautista ran into trouble in the fourth inning of his second start with the R'Dogs. West Virginia sent all nine batters to the plate and scored four runs on three hits. Suiter's ground rule double plated Jordan Luplow, and Pablo Reyes followed with a two-run double to score Joe and Suiter.

The Power added their fourth run on a wild pitch by Matt Marsh, who came in to relieve Bautista and get the final out of the inning. Marsh pitched the 5 1/3 innings, held West Virginia scoreless, and only gave up one hit.

Joey Maher (1-4) pitched the 10th inning and took the loss, giving up the go-ahead run that led West Virginia to the 4-3 win. Jose Regalado (1-3) earned his first win of the season despite blowing the save in the ninth. Junior Lopez retired the side in the bottom of the 10th to earn his fifth save.

BALLPARK FUN: Plenty of couples came out to The Joe and enjoyed another Tuesday Date Night. The theme of the evening was movie night and the RiverDogs players joined in the fun with their favorite movies in the background of their headshots on the video board. The "Honey Bear" mascot was also in attendance to join Charlie representing the National Honey Board and Jessica Schindler of the National Honey Board joined Dan Acheson on the radio broadcast. A chant of U-S-A! briefly rang through the ballpark as the U.S. Women's National Team notched a 1-0 victory over Nigeria in the Women's World Cup.
