Round Rock Express News Release

Friday night was a record night for the Round Rock Express. Unfortunately for the Express, it did little to help their on-field record.

A Dell Diamond record crowd of 12,568 saw the Arkansas Travelers score three times in the tenth inning to spoil a dominating performance from Greg Powell and down Round Rock, 3-0.

The previous record attendance was 12,260, set July 4, 2002. That gives Round Rock an average of 9,678 fans a game and puts the Express on track to draw 677,445 for the season, which would break the Texas League and all-time Double-A attendance record for the fourth straight season.

Junior Zamora and Brian Specht singled off of Rudy Lugo to start the tenth. They were followed by a third straight single, this one by Adonis Harrison to drive in the first run of the game. Singles by Kenny James and Nathan Haynes drove in the final two runs for the Travelers.

That ruined a remarkable night for Powell. Barely one month into his stint in the Express rotation, Powell turned in one of the highlight performances of the year. He went nine shutout innings and gave up only four hits while walking none.

While there were few offensive notables, Eric Cole did go 3 for 4.

Lugo (0-10) took the loss while Scott Schneider (4-2) got the win in relief. Marc Kroon struck out the side in the ninth for his third save.

The four game series will continue Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
